THE WEEK IN EDITORIAL CARTOONS
This weekly diary takes a look at the past week’s important news stories from the perspective of our leading editorial cartoonists (including a few foreign ones) with analysis and commentary added in by me.
When evaluating a cartoon, ask yourself these questions:
1. Does a cartoon add to my existing knowledge base and help crystallize my thinking about the issue depicted?
2. Does the cartoonist have any obvious biases that distort reality?
3. Is the cartoonist reflecting prevailing public opinion or trying to shape it?The answers will help determine the effectiveness of the cartoonist’s message.

Just what we needed to brighten things up on an otherwise drab Monday !
Yo, Republican Party – doesn’t calling it“frivolous luxuries which are out of reach of the vast majority of the American People” imply that given the cash, we would all be going to dinners at the local bondage themed nightclub featuring live bedroom antics ?
Some of us, you know, the old married farts, regular working people, and the ones not on Ted Haggard’s Cash for Public Blessings speed dial, just want to eat a steak and a salad and maybe some ice cream if it’s a Saturday, and then fall into bed at home, and go to sleep afterwards. No ropes required.
HuffPo says the kink, er, link webpage is down right now. Oh, dayam.
“The appearance is bad, I’ll give you that,” said Larry Farnsworth, a Republican strategist and former press secretary to House Speaker Dennis Hastert, “But… it’s tough raising money and I don’t think donors want to meet for free waffles and coffee at the Holiday Inn Express. These guys want to be wined and dined, it’s the dirty part of politics.”

In an hastily-arranged press conference which just ended at the National Press Club, Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele condemned the Nobel Committee for awarding the 2009 Nobel Peace Prize to President Barack Obama of the United States.
Steele offered the following remarks
Hajo de Reijger, Politicalcartoons.com (The Netherlands):: ::
“The Nobel Committee has done a great injustice to all peace-loving people around the world by prematurely awarding this prestigious award to someone who is totally undeserving of it. In fact, the person who is a deserving recipient was the 43rd President of the United States, George W. Bush. Remember him? His vision, governing philosophy, and far-reaching efforts to promote peace and cooperation amongst various nations should have resulted in him, and not Barack Obama, being selected for this international honor.”
More of Chairman Steele’s expanded remarks below the fold.

Consider this your health care reform talking point for the rest of the summer.
This is why this legislation is urgent. This is why it cannot wait!.
If Congress is allowed to go to recess without passing the legislation, that will be at least a 3 month delay, resulting in at least 4,500 more Americans dying than if the bill was passed now. That’s more than the number of people who died in 9/11.
We passed the Patriot Act overnight.
By the same measure of urgency of lives, the current Healthcare Reform Bill has been scrutinized to death. The deaths of those 4,500 Americans to be precise.
4,500 lives. That’s more than 9/11 or Katrina.
The article at democraticunderground.com goes on to blame Republicans for playing politics with our lives. I will not blame the Republicans because they are utterly powerless. I am blaming Harry Reid and Congressional Democrats.

It is NOT a Center-Right Country!
We may have a Center-Right Media.
We may have a Center-Right Punditry-ville.
But our Country, and the majority of the American People in our “Two America’s” are NOW decidedly a deeper shade of Blue!
Tide of the Country has shifted … Dramatically!
