Is It Delusional?
With every speech Bill Clinton and Hillary count their wins and in that count is Michigan and Florida. Is it not a bit delusional to count those contests? And of course the Clinton campaign wants it to appear that the DNC is screwing the people of those states out of their votes. But wait! Is not one of the tenets of politics is that the we take responsibility for out actions? If so then these states have NO ONE to blame but their own state apparatus. They tried to call the “bluff” of the DNC and they will lose.
When will the Clintonistas gonna realize that Bill is a blow hard (no pun intended) and a con artist. He was as prez and he is still that con artist. The voter needs to place the blame where it belongs, with their state DNC. Clintons are desperate at this point and will try any tactic, and I mean ANY tactic to try and close the gap on Obama.
Bill is trying tho foment rebellion within the party by saying such delusional crap as “the Party is dumping on the Florida voter”. Sorry people their state reps dumped on them, please place the blame where it is deserved. Bill keeps shouting his arrogance at the people that it will be their fault if Hil loses. That they HAVE to win. Or anything similar. It is him saying that it is their birthright to be in the WH.
I will wait and see if the American people are as gullible as I hope they are not.

Americas Last Chance?
Pundits and Kossaks are saying Hillary is done. There is a quote about when “it” is over that I will not indulge in here, wishing to avoid any hint of misogyny…but her chances are looking, um, slimmer. It seems like everyday brings us a bit closer to McCain vs. Obama.
Could there be a bigger (rhetorical) contrast?
Old vs. New, Rhetoric of Peace vs. Rhetoric of War, Unity vs. Division, Hope vs. Death and Destruction….and there is one more I am forgetting, I think.
Folks here do not seem to be as easy of prey for rhetoric as elsewhere, but the choice is eloquently framed by the candidates, Obama using his natural eloquence, the last 8 years providing it for St. John the Asleep.
In eight long/short months, America will have a clear choice….of, at least, rhetoric. And to a certain extent, action as well. For we may not know what Obama will do for us, but it doesn’t take Kreskin to know what McCain will do to us.
America is crumbling. The ancient shards of broken pottery in the cradle of civilization spreading inexorably to our barn. Destroying not the merchandise, but the entire structure. As they always do, eventually, the walls of Empire falling in amongst themselves. This may not be the last chance to stop the implosion, but it is by far our best next step.
What will America choose?

No solutions to the economic crisis in this presidential race.
In a recent EENR entry I posted about Paul Krugman’s blog entry regarding the real reason regulators have failed to reign in the excesses of Wall Street. Essentially, the failure was deliberate — an effort to systematically remove any and all regulation. I guess causing one Great Depression wasn’t enough to wake up the laissez-faire assholes into realizing that the days of unrestricted greed should have remained dead and buried; they’ve been working like hell to create another while making their money, and they appear to have succeeded.
But I digress. In today’s New York Times column, Professor Krugman expands upon this failure to reign in Wall Street by bringing the discussion to the presidential election.

“Blank document”. I recall older Word versions and I seem to think it used to be “New Document”. New is so much more positive than Blank.
I had an English teacher in high school, Teresa Brandon, who’d say “Go for the guts.” She was a rebel teacher who brought Dunkin Donuts to our early morning English Lit/Shakespeare class each Wednesday, in defiance of the “No food in class” rules. Beyond her exemplary teaching, she also had an extraordinary talent – she could neatly shove a billiard ball in her mouth without locking her jaw. These are skills that impress a high school junior.
You are forewarned: if you are not up for reading ramblings of a reminiscent, tangential and seemingly unrelated nature, please move to the next diary…;)
In honor of Ms. Brandon (though against her desire of clean, concise length), I’ll unashamedly go for the gut and dammit, I won’t apologize. And this is not purely a candidate diary.

Along The Racial Divide
I am an old fart so I remember the racial divide of the 50 & 60’s, not a good time to be an American. I also remember how close the races were becoming in the 70’s, which was the closest the two had become in many years. Then as quickly as it had began it started deteriorating in th Me generation of the 80’s.
Once again I see the races are close to a unity that has been missing and at the same time they are being pushed to segregate themselves along color lines. The media is doing all possible to widen the expanse—politics of the Dems are also helping—and then there is the American people, they are also helping separate the electorate along racial and gender lines.
it is just flipping SAD! There is a chance for the American people to face the question head on and find common ground but they will not at this point. White blue collars workers in the northeast are holding blacks responsible for their lack of work, when it is a non-caring government and administration that should be the bad guy.
The Dems, some of them, want this new race battle with the attempt to marginalize a message of hope. And thanks to their efforts the Dems are losing ground to the Repubs. And there is a possiblity that this divide will help defeat the Dems in November–yet again.
The outcome is becoming predictable–They will snatch defeat from the jaws of victory–yet again. Well done. at least they are consistent.

Coalitions
I posted this essay here on Docudharma about six months ago when the site was new and I was new to the site. I thought I’d re-post it now because, at this point in the Presidential election, we are at the point where we’re going to have to do some coalition work if we’re going to stop “Mr. 100-Year War” from winning.
Some time ago I found a speech given by Bernice Johnson Reagon titled Coalitions Politics: Turning the Century (scroll down past the intro) at the West Coast Women’s Music Festival in 1981. It is some of the most profound thinking I have ever read about our struggles to work together as progressives. I can’t tell you how many times the content of this speech has crept into my thinking in all kinds of discussions. I’d love it if everyone would just go read the whole thing and then come back and talk about it in the comments. But knowing that’s not likely, I’ll excerpt some quotes and try to summarize.
