Due to having to make a cash deposit in person to a certain bank account in a certain place,  ms. moneysmith was not able to spend the incredible amount of time and effort typically on display in her Pony Parties.  Since she has such high standards, and was not willing to post anything of lesser excellence, she convinced me to do one, since few would be surprised or dismayed if I put out crap, me having assiduously cultivated an aura of low expectations.  Her words of wisdom to me: nocatz, nobody gives a flying fuck.   Let’s hope her wonderfull-sweetiepie-lambikins self will be able to at least stop in to say hello.  So,

It seems that I really have a case of the Mondays: I forgot to post my Monday morning Pony Party. Sorry! But I worked all weekend, so I have an excuse, right? Right?

… Or will I be fired from the Monday 9 am time slot? Bring on the boiling brine!

And I have a conflict during my 3 pm time slot, at least for the next 6 weeks.

::Sigh:: What’s a poor, pathetic pickle to do?

Anyway, I hope y’all are doing well. It’s raining pooches and pooties here in Vancouver. That’s not helping my mood much. But, at least the days are getting longer!

Amazing Grace

Today if I am very very lucky I will be able to sneak up upon two wood ducks who have been visiting the water hole at the back of our pretty and get a picture. Yesterday I slid down a steep edge of the water hole and scared away two regular ducks and got no pictures.

In the mean time, a few more random pictures I took in the summer time on one of my jaunts. The reason I like these two is I have NO idea who painted the “wall art” or what the significance is….

I believe that the Arcade Restaurant is the oldest in Memphis. If you come to Memphis, I might even take you there and I can think of a few others we can hang out in.

This dog must be a regular, he waited camly outside while his owner went in…

I took these during a summer jaunt to a local art gallery and garden. I remember it well because my father and his wife were visiting and it was about 105 degrees out and I had to snap them quickly while they fanned themselves in the shade of the garden.

They seemed much happier when we went into the air conditioned gallery to see the exhibit. My father confessed to me that he thought I was exaggerating about the heat in August. He told me on the phone the other day they really enjoyed their visit but would remember “that damned heat for the rest of their lives.” I figure living in Memphis is good training in case I really do end up in Hell.

I am so excited I finally gave in and bought myself a gigantic Le Creuset dutch oven. It cost a gallon of blood and a few dollars, to. However, now I can take another shot at some classic French cooking. I found the a great version of a coq au vin recipe this month’s Gourmet magazine but the weather has warmed up so as soon as it gets chilly I will take my shot.

Most classic French cooking is pretty non fancy….

Not sure about that accent…..

I’m reading lots of stories about journeys. nlob on his new farm; victory coffee looking for home, Edger filling a friend’s SUV with his belongings to set out on yet another adventure. buhdy left San Francisco months ago, i’m moving to the Netherlands. RiaD just returned to her beloved farm, and H²D is making Portland home. We’ve all lost loved ones to the great field trip that is death. And, it seems, all of us are on some one or another philosophical/metaphysical/existential Lewis and Clark-like expedition.

Here’s to our journeys then… those inward and those outward. Mostly, to finding home::: how we imagine it, remember it, and dream of it.
