Just because I like to know what others think about things great and small… and I have a passion for anybody who can condense the spirit of a thing in a few words…

Pony Mambo Party
The floor is open. Shall we dance?
All pictures from PBS’ America’s Ballroom challenge
The mambo is a Cuban musical form and dance. Mambo was the name of a Haitian Voodoo princess. It means conversation with the gods. The first music called “mambo” was written in the late 1930s by a Cuban composer. Instruments commonly used for mambo music are conga, cajon, bango, timbales, claves, upright bass, piano, trombone, trumpet and saxophone.
The mambo craze began in the late 1940s when a musician named Perez Prado came up with a dance to go with it.
Hit it Perez!
Mambo No. 5
Now for some modern mambo craze. This is a fun song and the video rocks!

In Chinese astrology the animal signs assigned by year represent what others perceive you as being or how you present yourself. It is a common misconception that the animals assigned by year are the only signs, and many western descriptions of Chinese astrology draw solely on this system. In fact, there are also animal signs assigned by month (called inner animals) and hours of the day (called secret animals).
Click the wiki link above to find your zodiac symbol (based on the year you are born) and your “inner animal”. Earth, wood, fire, water, and metal also modify the animal signs.

Bootleg Pony: Piped In
In the spirit of a popular front against the forces of anti-poniness, the Anarcho-Syndicalist Pony Liberation Front (ASPLF) has allied with more mainstream pro-pony forces to bring you an officially sanctioned Bootleg Pony.
As for your author ? Well, the subject of my Scots roots has come up lately, and ranged from nicknames to the inevitable kilt questions (“Well ?”) to a sporran-and-kilt reunion of sorts with our own outstanding climatologist stormchaser. One thing that comes to my mind is the love-hate relationship Scots themselves have with aspects of their own culture. For example, do you choose to say someone’s “strangling the cat,” (no, not that …) or playing the pipes ? Myself, I love the bagpipes. Never learned how to play but given their skill with wind instruments I have some hopes for my kids (actually I think the youngest will skirl, the middle one’s more of a Highland dancer.) But pipes, hmmm, different things come to mind.

Pony Party: The Night before Super Tuesday
‘Twas the night before Super Tuesday
When all through the house
Not a creature was stirring
Not even Dennis Kucinich a mouse
The ballots were stacked
By the ballot box with care
With hopes that the voters
Soon would be there
The voters were nestled
All snug in their beds
While visions of Democrats
Danced in their heads
Obama in his kerchief
And Clinton in her cap
Had just settled down
For a long winter’s nap
When on the White House lawn
There arose such a clatter
I sprang from my bed
To see what was the matter
Away to the TV
I flew like The Flash
Grabbed the remote
Which I almost crashed
The loon on the screen
On the White House lawn
Gave me the shivers
And caused me to yawn
When, what to my wondering
Eyes should appear
But that horrid wretch
Who likes to shoot deer
I knew in a moment it must be Mr. Dick
More rapid than the Eagle Forum
His minions they came
And he whisted and shouted
And called them foul names
“Now, Russert, now, Brit Hume
Now, Billo and Hannity
On, Fox News, teh stoopid
On Matthews and Blitzer!
To the top of the screen
To the top of the wall
Now bash away, bash away
Bash away all!”
As dry leaves that before,
The wild hurricane fly,
When they meet with an obstacle,
Mount to the sky,
So up to the White House
The minions they flew,
With reports Republicans,
And St. Dickless, too.

Pony Party: Zoo Three
I think we need to start with some shaking music since this is the last pony party of the day….
Here are the last of some pics I snapped yesterday. The Northwest Passage exhibit was closed for renovation and the warm weather animals were off sunbathing on a beach somewhere so you get mostly birds and some big kitties at the end….
Hey Wazzup????
Love is in the air….
Staunch individualists….

Pony Party Zoo Two
Does anybody NOT like penguins? Come on I dare ya. These ones are South Africa and the keep mentioned that the weather yesterday ( high 30’s to 40 ) was about the lower limit of what they tolerate.
They have a little “keeper chat” everyday at 15:00 and the penguins know they will also get fed. A Cormorant also from South America and South Africa hangs out in their pool. I wouldn’t say he hung out with them but he did get fed.
This gentleman used to be a normal sized catfish but he took steroids hoping to get a bigger contract…
Pretty fish….
A skink….
