PONY OPEN THREAD: it’s the LEFT OVERS stupid!

From the master of such things as left overs… I give you Martha Stewart’s take on the day after…

Leftovers can serve as the main ingredients for dishes you might not otherwise make. Sliced turkey can become the main ingredient in an open-faced sandwich, a turkey-and-green-chile burrito, or a turkey-salad sandwich. Leftover mashed potatoes can be used to make gnocchi or a potato-chive souffle; sweet potatoes can be turned into sweet-potato biscuits or sweet-potato butter. Even the turkey bones can have a second life: Use them as the basis of a delicious turkey stock, which can be frozen for up to four months and used in any recipe calling for chicken stock.

Pony Party…Cleanin’ my plate :)

Happy Thanksgiving

Pony Party, Thanks….

There’s very little that will make you more thankful for what you have than spending a few hours in your local emergency room.  Human drama…no wonder so many television programs draw on the hospital theme.  Within a few minutes and a few feet of each other you have birth, death, recovery, injury, pain….people who are generally healthy who are moaning or screaming in pain…people who are much worse off, who lack the ability to express it…

PONY OPEN THREAD… so i’m a little late

have a picture from my trip to the South of France… i will write an essay about it soon… before i completely forget everything about it (it’s age, you know)

Pony Party, Boringest Pony Party Evah…

….sigh….

Pony Party: Best of?

A while back, our fearless leader suggested that we have some sort of Top Comments-ish diary series. I was thinking that the Monday afternoon open thread could serve as a forum where people link to their favorite comments and essays over the past week. For instance, I really enjoyed Nightprowlkitty’s essay this past Friday – a must-read, in opinion of this humble pickle.

So, is this a good idea? Should it be more formal? If so, will you help out?

What are your favorite dharmatic moments of the past week?

Pony Party: Gift Giving

Cross-posted from Top Comments in Orange.

Though I love the festive nature of the holiday season, I’ve come to lament the never-ending frenzy of consumerism that begins the day after Thanksgiving and ends on New Year’s Day. In years past, we’ve given gifts that were made locally or obtained through fair trade practices (at least, to the best of our knowledge). Not surprisingly, these were typically hand-made gifts, rather than the mass-produced melts of plastic available in stores geared toward the masses. This year, rather than get caught up in the consumerism/consumption game, Mr Pickle and I have decided that all of our gifts – given and received – will be charitable donations.
