Opening this weekend:

Elizabeth, the Golden Age (link)

Starring Cate Blanchett and Geoffrey Rush, to mixed reviews.

From Entertainment Weekly

“A production of exquisitely complicated wigs and expensively grand wide shots, it pauses often to admire its own beauty, leery of messing with previous success.”

Through October 15, I plan to devote my Pony Party slots to support International Blog Action Day and its focus on our environment. I’ve found a sweet site, Save Our Planet Web Ring, that puts into context the everyday ways in which we can impact the earth for good or bad. I will add my own thing to the list of what we can do: simply, to believe that we have the power to make this world more equitable and more just. Jump below the fold… I really like the examples used by this site

Pony Party, Lazy Friday

The worst thing about my lazy Friday today is that I don’t even feel the littlest bit guilty about it.  I wish I could say I’m sorry that this morning’s Pony Party is nothing more than a few funnish Friday-related links I’ve collected….but I’m not.  Click away….

IllustrationFriday.com introduces a topic per week and accepts submissions on that topic from all kinds of artistic media and in virtually every style imaginable.

Pony Party: Oh Superman, In a Box

For this afternoon, a blast from the past, with Laurie Anderson’s Oh Superman, as far as I know the orginal video.  I didn’t even know there was one, before now.  And a really great Pixar animation, which many people may have seen (I hadn’t)…

Remember, please don’t rec the pony parties…

Pony Party: Two Or Three Things I Know For Sure

Just wasted three hours cruising youtube…not that I’m complaining or anything.  For this morning, a short interview exerpt with Dorothy Allison, and Alix Olson to wake you the hell up…

Remember, please don’t rec the pony parties…

Pony Party, Al’s Odds

According to the LiveScience.com story picked up by Yahoo!News,  the website BetUS.com is taking bets as to who will win the Nobel Peace Prize.  (LiveScience.com is a great website which I wholly recommend; BetUS.com is a subscription site I’ve never participated with.)

Al Gore is currently the favorite at 5:2.

Long shots paying at 100:1 right now include George W. Bush, Rush Limbaugh, and Tony Blair.

Through October 15, I plan to devote my Pony Party slots to support International Blog Action Day and its focus on our environment, of which we are as much a part as any other creature or plant or ecosystem. In fact, we are ecosystems within one, made up of 70% water and 30% earth, much like the surface of our mother, Gaia, Planet Earth.

I call upon Gaia, Primeval Prophetess . . .
The Greek great earth mother.”

Pony Party, some good news….

Every once in a while, you see a news story that makes you feel good about people again.

Paul Sucher was on a waiting list for a new kidney when a Kirby Vacuum Cleaner salesman knocked on his door.  When Sucher told Jamie Howard that he couldn’t afford a Kirby because of his disability, Howard was touched.

Through October 15, I plan to devote my Pony Party slots to support International Blog Action Day and its focus on our environment. Tonight, let’s get reacquainted with US PIRG, an advocate for myriad issues from media reform to net neutrality. UP PIRG has a solid record of advocacy for the planet and has great recommendations on actions we can take. Link and intro below the fold.

Pony Party, “what a character”

Who doesn’t love IMDb?  And if you didn’t think it could get better….you were mistaken.

IMDb has begun featuring ‘character pages‘.  Now you can get those Yoda quotes without having to sift through all of the other character’s whining comments… 😉  Or make a page for your favorite, underappreciated TV or movie character.

Luke: All right, I’ll give it a try.
Yoda: No. Try not. Do… or do not. There is no try.

Pony Party: Travel

Light Emitting Pickle here to bring you the most recent open thread. First, a few words about Pickle Pony Parties:

Please do not recommend a Pony Party when you see one.  There will be another along in a few hours.
