The Lure of the Gold

Entitlement

Shouldn’t entitlement

be an increasing function?

Should not our children

be entitled

to more freedom

liberty, joy

and happiness

than we were?

Shouldn’t their children

if they have any

deserve still more?

Or do you speak

of material things?

Do you look to me

as the reason

you don’t have more?

Pooling

Absolutely Nothing

War

Huh! Good God, y’all!

What is it good for?

War is good

for making the rich richer

those mongers

who profit

from human suffering

and tragedy

It matters not

if they benefit from victory

by one side or the other

only that War

continue somewhere

forever

And War is good

for spreading

that suffering and tragedy

along with hatred

death and the disintegration

of human society

What more could anyone want?

Songs that voices seldom share

Does it matter

if you hear me

When the morning comes

I’ll be there by your side

to three-part harmony?

Are you waking?

Will you stop here

to share yourself

so everyone can see?

when I am here

I may be spreading

a good thought

will anything of substance

Imagining the Pain Away

Floating beneath a sea of pain

Focusing

on the point

where the pain

seemed to reside

I aimed my thoughts

to move that point

through my body

to a locus

an inch or two

off the tip

of my nose

where it would hurt

no longer

Wouldn’t it be grand

if our collective

consciousness

could cause

a similar effect

on the blights

humans have inflicted

on this planet?
