Middle-class is Fearful

It is the economy, again, stupid.   Working class families are fearful, but the opportunity for mis-information is high.

Senator Obama is using the Detroit Labor Day kickoff to emphasize three messages: addressing the needs of working people, the key role unions play in the election, and the role of manufacturing and the auto industry,” Shaiken said. Both the Democratic presidential nominee and Republican rival Sen. John McCain are fighting for union members — a key voting bloc in Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania and other swing states. Link

Obama/Biden and the populist message are on-track.

Drum Major Institute’s (DMI) first annual survey on the Middle Class and Public Policy reveals that America’s middle-class households are fearful families – overwhelmingly pessimistic about the direction of the country, especially the economy and high gas prices.

Most have little flexibility in their own economic situations and have little if anything left over each month after meeting basic expenses. The middle class is disgruntled with the direction of the country and politicians and see little coming out of Washington that would give them cause for optimism.

Middle-class Americans do know what they want.

Survey: What Blogs Do You (Really) Read?

Walking through Barnes & Noble today, one of the things that most struck me was how so many non-fiction books are published to confirm the sentiments of the people who buy them.  Obviously, people buying Ann Coulter or Frank Rich’s books are already aware that they will pretty much agree with the author before they read word one.  Other books, such as “What’s The Matter With California” are obviously aimed at confirming the views of the only people who would pick up such a tome in the first place.

Which leads me to wonder about what blogs we honestly read, on a weekly basis.  Not the ones we admire and will check on sometimes, but the ones we open almost every day, and read nearly every post from.  My list is below the fold.

Docudharma Reader Survey

For a few months we have been a member of BlogAds – one of over 1500 participating blogs.  BlogAds has subdivided the blogs into “hives” to allow advertisers to more easily target particular audiences. You need to get permission from the hive owner to join.  Docudharma was recently accepted in the Liberal Blog Ads Network (LBAN) hive. This is the same network that Daily Kos and a lot of the big name political bloggers belong to (see below). There are currently 156 members, so there are a lot of lesser known blogs on it too… like us.   Being in the LBAN helps distinguish us amongst the umpteen other categories, such as Parenting, Sports, Science, Religion, Gay, Gossip, Music and Other blogs.

One of the criteria to join LBAN is that you have to take part in the Blog Reader Survey.   This will help us to be more successful at drawing advertisers based on our demographics, so please do your dharmic duty and….
