President Carter: Many Children Were Tortured Under Bush

(Crossposted from Orange with author’s permission)

“You have the power to hold your leaders accountable.” – President Obama, Ghana, July 14, 2009

While congress says it is gearing up to investigate what is old news, that CIA and Special Ops forces are killing Al Qaeda leaders, a decision of far different gravity is being contemplated by Attorney General Eric Holder.  The new insistence of Congress on its oversight role, conspicuously absent throughout 8 years of Bush, is suddenly rearing its head in the form of questioning a policy which has been in place with no controversy for years.  The U.S. has been hunting and killing Al Qaeda leaders outside of official war zones since 2004, when the New York Times reported that Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld had signed an order authorizing Special Forces to kill Al Qaeda where they found them.

And the Cat Came Back, (now that’s a headline!) By Lorraine Ali

Big news, right?  Breaking.

Not even.  @;-)

I don’t care.  ðŸ™‚

It’s news that makes me very, very happy.

A man of peace, an artist of life, returns to give the part of himself that I can receive, his music.

In this time.

Via his own choice.

I am floored by the decision.

And more grateful than I can find words to explain.

Artists of life, rejoice!  We have an unique, tested, treasured Voice back among us!  ðŸ™‚

Enjoy!  We will be Encouraged!

Yes, Americans Scare Me. They Might Kill Me.

So said a seven year old Iraqi boy in an interview.  The poor kid has basically lived his entire life in a war torn country, in many ways resembling scenes from Mad Max. Now he is an orphan.  He says that the Americans threw a disk of fire at his house and his family was killed.  He survived but the Americans will forever scare him.

I guess the first thing that I think when I hear this young boy say this is, “You don’t have to be scared of me young man!  Please, let me help you, I don’t want you to be scared.”

The second thing I think is how angry I am that our politicians and government officials have made young people around the world scared of me, an American citizen.  A person who loves and respects all people, regardless of color, race, religion, or who is ruling their country. A person who loves children and is broken hearted when children are abused, maltreated, or subjected to the terrors of war.

I believe all people are equal.  Just as our constitution says.  The U.S. Constitution.  The same country who now has children all over the world “scared” of Americans.  Maybe that is the most disgusting thing about all this.  Other than the deaths, don’t forget the deaths.

I really don’t care whether Obama and Michelle look good in photographs.  I don’t care what Michelle is wearing or whether Obama has a great smile.  I care about people.  I care about children.  This poor boy and the circumstances the U.S. has put him in breaks my heart.   I encourage you to watch this video.

Victims of bush’s “War on Terror”: Children

On January 12th 2009 President bush gave his final Press Conference to the Nation.

In it he made a number of statements that have been analyzed by many, my take on his answers and spin was his showing how little a man, who is in total denial and lacking any compassion or moral feelings, of how big a failure as a person, and especially as the President, he has been!

In one of his answers he said this:

More Than 1 in 3 The Stunning Reality of The Iraq War

This is a compilation of information contained in my previous Iraq diaries, updated whenever possible.

The most difficult number to validate is the real population of Iraq on March 19, 2003. Population figures have been an educated guess, in part determined by the amount of food purchased and historic birth rates, trying to take into account the 500,000 or more who died each year because of the embargo. From the various sources, the UN and international aid agencies the population is estimated between 22 and 25 million. The number most frequently quoted is 24 million on the eve of the war, this is the figure I will use.

The information contained here is gathered from UNICEF, the United Nations, WHO, various medical journals, relief organizations, governments of Syria and Jordan and eye witness reports. Whenever possible they have been verified with muiltiple sources.

Sarah Palin and my Aunt Sherri

crossposted from Daily Kos

The first thing I laid eyes on this morning was “Newsweek Bombshell: Palin & Family Warned of “Emotional Child Abuse” by Judge “ Steven R. I am still trying to get my jaw back in place.

Wow what a coincidence. Not only does my aunt share the same initials with Sarah Palin, she acts like her too. I am going through the same thing with my daughter Ashley due to our Aunt Sherri’s ass act. That ass act being disparagement of my husband and myself resulting in my 14 year old mentally disabled daughter running away twice, trying to commit suicide, and placing herself in the company of two grown men that she doesn’t even know!

Winning The Stay-At-Home Mom Vote

From a stay-at-home mom.

I know, I know…my alias is “grannyhelen”, which I’ve used as a tribute to my own great-grandmother. I, myself, am a 40 year old stay-at-home mom of two in a small commuter city.

Wanna win my vote? It won’t be as easy as simply nominating a “hockey mom”, or even taking down the “maverick” image of John McCain. But women – and particularly mothers – may help decide this election, and it’s obvious that the McCain campaign picked Governor Palin to appeal to women like me. In order to put Barack Obama in the White House, Democrats must compete successfully for these votes.

I remember when my first child was born. It was a Sunday evening in October, and because the staff that night was short handed there were only two nurses on the floor, and one doctor on call.  For the sake of brevity I’ll spare you all but one of the details of that night. My repeated requests for somebody to come to our room and help were ignored because the “professionals” knew that it just couldn’t be happening so quickly. Even a childbirth noob like me knew what a head popping out of that magical place meant, time for action!

I ended up catching my own daughter as she launched herself into this new place of being and straight into my heart. The nurses showed up several minutes later with bemused looks, and I remember one said loudly, “Holy Shit! You weren’t kidding!” The usual frenzy of delivery room antics followed, and once completed I spent every minute of the next 24 hours either holding or staring at this amazing new perfect little person as I was so immediately and completely in love. I knew instantly that I would do anything for her. No matter the cost, no matter the risks, I was going to give her a good life. I was going to protect her. I’m sure these are the thoughts of all new Fathers, and those of us blessed to have been born in developed countries have a damn good shot at making those dreams a reality. But suppose your child isn’t born “perfect”, and that “imperfection” will lead to a lifetime of isolation and cultural shame for your child unless corrected. You have no resources, none.

Now what?

Human Rights Watch: US forces imprison children in Iraq (without due process)

The US military is back in the cross-hairs of human rights organizations.  The issue in question is our detention of children, their treatment in custody, judicial review, and access by international monitors. Today, the issue will come up for review by the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child.

On May 22, the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child will meet in Geneva to review US compliance with the international treaty banning the use of child soldiers, which requires states to help with the recovery and reintegration of such children under their control.

Although Iraq is supposedly a sovereign country, US forces still seem to be playing a major role in arresting and detaining Iraqi citizens, including children.
