New York Pizza v Chicago Pizza

Adapted from Rant of the Week at The Stars Hollow Gazette

Jon Stewart: Tower Record

Let me explain something, deep-dish pizza is not only not better than New York pizza. It’s not pizza. It’s a f***ing casserole!

Let me add this, if you can’t pick it up in one hand and have to eat it with a fork, it isn’t pizza.

Rahm Emanuel Sends Jon Stewart And ‘Daily Show’ ‘Deep Dish With Dead Fish’ After Pizza Fight

Apparently dead fish are Rahm Emanuel’s version of an olive branch. [..]

In a nod to one of his most infamous political shenanigans, Chicago’s mayor made sure the deep-dish pies were topped with dead fish (y’ know, anchovies). [..]

Yet as much as the feisty mayor wanted the last word, Stewart and company were having none of it. Their response to Emanuel’s “peace” offering? A Vine video showing a pooch turning his nose up at the delicious pie.

Feed The Wisconsin Demonstrators Pizza!!

Photobucket

I just ordered 2 pizzas to be delivered to demonstrators in Madison, Wisconsin.  Rachel Maddow has the story:

You’re probably already familiar with ordering take-out food online. Some restaurants let you do it directly and others use a middle man service, but the idea is that you log on, place your order, plug in your credit card info and tell it where to deliver the food. But there’s nothing that says you have to have the food delivered to yourself. In fact, there’s nothing that says you have to even be in the same country as the food you’ve just ordered.

And so we arrive at Ian’s Pizza by the Slice where donations literally from around the world are coming into their State Street store in the form of online pizza orders to feed Wisconsin protesters. As Politico reports, “On Saturday alone, Ian’s gave away 1,057 free slices in their store and delivered more than 300 pizzas to the Capitol itself.”

You get it.  I got it.  I sent 2 20″ 3 topping pizzas to the assembled democracy demonstrators.  Join me.  It’s easy.  You go to badgerbites.com and order a pie for the demonstrators.  You know how to order for yourself.  It’s just as easy to order for others.  Go for it.  It will make you smile.

And by the way.  This does not mean that my allegiance to Pizza Bob’s in Ann Arbor has been violated in any regard.  The way I see it, when in Madison, you do like the Badgers.

Homemade Pizza – it’s what’s for dinner!

Inspired by Edwardo’s, my favorite Chi-town pizza.

Stuffed Spinach and Sausage Pizza

Dough-

4 t. sugar

3 pkg rapid rise yeast

2 c. warm water

5 c. all-purpose flour

4 t. salt

6 T. butter, melted

6 oz. bag fresh baby spinach, washed and spun dry

1 lb. part skim mozzarella

8 oz. monterey jack

1-1/2 c. pizza sauce

1 c. diced tomatoes

2/3 lb. sweet italian sausage, browned and drained

1/2 c. parmesano reggiano

Preheat oven to 475F.  Lightly oil 14-inch deep dish pizza pan.

Combine yeast & sugar in warm water. Let sit for 5 minutes.  It should foam up.  Combine flour and salt.  Add the butter, then add the yeast mixture. Combine and knead on floured surface until dough is soft and smooth.  Let rise 1 hour.

Shred cheese. Put spinach in food processor to chop fine (or use frozen chopped spinach – defrosted and well drained). Mix mozzarella and jack cheese with the spinach. (You can use any cheeses you want – I added a little asiago because I had it in my fridge).   Reserve parmesano for topping.  Mix pizza sauce with tomatoes (canned or fresh).  Cook sausage.

Pony Party: Pizza & Beer

For lunch today I had pizza and beer.   mmmm, my two favorite food groups!

That caused me to come home late… and now the PP is late… and I haven’t written anything anyway…  so let’s just have more pizza and beer.

I’m native to the Chicago area so when I moved away from home I had to learn to make my own.

My specialty is stuffed spinach.  (a la Edwardo’s*)
